Description

An Introduction to Film Studies will explore the art, business, and cultural aspects of film. The first part of this class will focus on the unique language of film and how the elements of film (mise-en-scene, cinematography, editing, sound, and more) combine to create and communicate meaning to its audience. Using our understanding of these elements we will look critically at several culturally significant American and international films that will prepare us to examine different critical theories and methods to read and write about film. Although not a primary focus, this class will also look at the history of American film and the evolution of genres. This course will provide you with the skills to analyze film aesthetically and culturally. Prerequisite: ENG 101 with a ?C? or better.
