Description

This course will introduce the concept of trauma-informed or trauma-responsive schools. Learners will be introduced to the three Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) which includes abuse, neglect, and household dysfunction and their potential negative impact on health conditions, health risk behaviors, and socioeconomic challenges as children age. This course will identify and explore the impact of trauma on students, what trauma services are in schools, how to create a threat assessment plan. It will identify the characteristics of student behavior, and examine secondary traumatic stress, bullying, and cyberbullying. Together we will investigate, discuss, and try various approaches to building safe, supportive, trauma-sensitive learning environments that help all students learn and thrive. This course is offered by the WCCC Division of Workforce & Professional Development.
